As the director of Africa Youth Innovation and Technology Center, I am proud to lead an organization that is youth-focused and youth-led. Our organization is an indigenous, non-governmental, non-political, non-religious, and non-profit making civil society organization. At AYITC, we use a participatory approach as our basic methodology. This approach allows and encourages the community to counter problems, enhance decision-making capability, and implement development programs. By involving the community in our work, we maintain a sense of ownership and responsibility among them and secure their contribution to development work. Our approach can be likened to that of an incubator for infants, which provides a safe, controlled space for them to live while their vital organs develop. Similarly, our participatory approach provides a supportive environment for the community to grow and develop. In addition to our work with the community, we also offer a business incubator program. This program gives very early-stage companies access to mentorship, investors, and other support to help them get established.
